150th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of
Swami Vivekananda

Swami Vivekananda is one of the greatest spiritual leaders of the modern world and a great lover of humanity in general and of India in particular. In order to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of this patriot-saint, which falls in 2013, in a befitting manner, Ramakrishna Mission Headquarters has undertaken several projects for uplift of the weaker and marginalized sections of society and for inculcating moral values among all sections of society. Project areas cover integrated child development, improvement of children’s health by eliminating malnutrition, empowerment of women, and alleviating poverty.

Gadadhara Abhyudaya Prakalpa

One of the projects undertaken by Ramakrishna Mission Headquarters is known as Gadadhar Abhyudaya Prakalpa - named after child Ramakrishna and oriented towards integrated child welfare - physical, intellectual, and moral. The children are provided nutritious food, undertake physical exercise, and are imparted moral and cultural values through moral stories, lives and teachings of great men and women, and bhajans.

Ramakrishna Mission, Vijayawada started one unit of this ongoing project at Sitanagaram Ashrama in January 2011. In January-March 2011, the total participants in this project were 130 (Boys 57 + Girls 73) and an amount of Rs.1,85,693/- was spent for distributing School Uniforms, Note Books, School Bags, Study materials, footwear and items for health and hygiene such as Milk, Biscuits, Upma, Pongal, etc.

Presently, the Vijayawada center is running six units of this project: at Sitanagaram, Machilpatnam, Guntur, Nuzvid, Huzurnagar, and Tiruvuru.
