Swami Swatmanandaji passes away
Swami Swatmanandaji (65), the Head of Ramakrishna Math and Mission Rajahmundry branch for about 25 years, passed away at Vijayawada Ramakrishna Mission on Wednesday, 10 May 2006.
In spreading Ramakrishna-Vivekananda message, in organizing massive relief and rehabilitation activities during natural calamities in the State, and in conducting medical services for 25 long years among the poor and tribals in the remote places - all these stand testimony for the Swami's love for the poor, service, renunciation and his work efficiency.
Rangachary, a young man of 19 from Kakinada attracted to the life and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda joined Ramakrishna Math, Chennai in 1961 as Brahmachari Prahlad to lead a pure monastic life. He had spiritual initiation from Swami Yatiswaranandaji (a disciple of Swami Brahmanandaji, spiritual son of Sri Ramakrishna) in the year 1962, Brahmacharya vows as Prabhachaitanya from Swami Vireswaranandaji ( A disciple of Sri Sarada Devi) in the year 1968 and Sannyasa diksha in the year 1973.
The Swami served in various capacities in Ramakrishna Math, Chennai, Vishakapatnam, Rajahmundry, Chennai Students' Home. He served in many relief and rehabilitation projects like Diviseema(1977), Vamsadhara floods(1981), Repalle - Nizampatnam cyclone (1990), Nellore, Prakasam, East and West Godavari districts. As the Head of the Rajahmundry centre from 1979 to 2003, the Swami has developed the centre and improved its activities manifold to serve all sections of people.
The 13th day function was held on 22/05/2006 at Sitanagaram Ashrama premises. Special puja, homa and a meeting was organised in memory of the Swami. Several monks and 200 devotees participated.
The Swami was taking rest at Vijayawada for the last nine months.
